Massachusetts Debuts New Masterpiece Trail Highlighting Statewide Art Assets

Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism creates statewide Masterpiece Trail connecting regional works of art

BOSTON, MA. – The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT) introduced the new Masterpiece Trail guiding people to some of the most important artwork housed throughout the state, linking 13 different tourism regions and creating a multifaceted cultural experience for art lovers. Featuring pieces from 24 art galleries and museums across the Commonwealth, the Masterpiece Trail reflects the artistic spirit of the Bay State through its collection of diverse art.

“When visiting just one museum in Massachusetts, visitors can discover remarkable artwork” said Francois L. Nivaud, Executive Director, Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, “Using this Masterpiece Trail as a guide, they can continue their journey to other museums and see an unparalleled collection of artwork from world-renowned artists – housed right here in Massachusetts.”

The Masterpiece Trail features extraordinary works of art which are part of permanent or long-term collections in Massachusetts, and comes in advance of ArtWeek MA, taking place this April 27th – May 6th. ArtWeek MA, the statewide debut of the former ArtWeek Boston, will bring a multitude of regional art, culture, and creative events to the Commonwealth in late April.

“We really wanted to provide tourists, and locals alike, an engaging and accessible way to experience iconic art housed in Massachusetts. From well-known works to hidden gems, these distinctive pieces are just a taste of what Massachusetts has to offer.” said Shannon Healey, Director of Domestic Public Relations, Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.

The Masterpiece Trail will be featured on the MOTT website, massvacation.com/masterpiecetrail. The trail’s fun and fresh take on local museums and galleries brings new life to the way visitors think about Massachusetts culture. Featured artwork spans classic centerpieces like the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum’s Cavelli Guitar, and the Clark Institute’s Fumée d’Ambre Gris by John Singer Sargent, to the Museum of Bad Art’s Ronan the Pug and Thomas Maley’s O, Happy Day! sculpture at the Field Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard. The Trail encourages art aficianados and amateaurs alike to venture out and explore Massachusetts art and destinations through a new lens.
